Genesis — Book overview

Genesis. The Book of Beginnings

Genesis opens the Bible by introducing God as Creator and by tracing the beginnings of the world, humanity, sin, judgment, nations, and the special promise family through who the biblical story continues. Chapters 1–11 move across humanity as a whole—from creation and Eden through the Flood and Babel. Chapters 12–50 narrow the story to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph, following God’s promises of land, children and later family, and blessing. Genesis begins with creation and ends with Jacob’s family in Egypt, preparing the way for Exodus.
